Bridgeless Architecture
ELI5 - The Vibe Check
Bridgeless is React Native finally ripping out the old bridge entirely instead of just working around it. JavaScript and native code now talk directly through JSI at all times, not just when a New Architecture component happens to support it. It's the app running the New Architecture with no legacy fallback left to lean on.
Real Talk
Bridgeless is the mode in React Native's New Architecture where the legacy asynchronous bridge is fully removed, and all JavaScript-to-native communication goes exclusively through JSI. It became the default runtime configuration in recent React Native releases, requiring Fabric and TurboModules to be fully adopted since there is no bridge fallback available.
When You'll Hear This
"Once we went bridgeless, the one legacy native module without a TurboModule version stopped working entirely." / "Bridgeless is the default now, you can't opt back into the old bridge in newer React Native versions."
