Config Cosplay
ELI5 - The Vibe Check
You saw someone's 400-line CLAUDE.md with elaborate rules, personas, and decision trees, and now you have one too, copied almost verbatim, tweaked just enough to feel like yours. You don't fully know what half of it does. That's config cosplay: dressing up as a power user of your AI tooling without actually being one yet.
Real Talk
Config cosplay is the practice of adopting elaborate agent configuration files (CLAUDE.md, .cursorrules, custom instructions) copied from someone else's setup for their perceived sophistication rather than because you understand or need what they do. It usually accumulates unused rules and contradictory instructions until someone finally prunes it.
When You'll Hear This
"Half of that CLAUDE.md is config cosplay, nobody's checked what those rules actually trigger." / "I copied his cursor rules wholesale, pure config cosplay, don't judge me."
