Model Card
ELI5 - The Vibe Check
A model card is the nutrition label for an AI model. Before you decide to build on top of a model, the model card tells you what it was trained on, what it's good at, where it tends to mess up, and what you probably shouldn't use it for. Skipping it is like buying a car without checking whether it's a two-seater sports car or a moving truck.
Real Talk
A model card is a standardized document accompanying a released model that reports its intended use, training data sources, evaluation benchmarks, known limitations, and potential biases or failure modes. Popularized by Google's original model card proposal and now common practice on platforms like Hugging Face, it gives downstream users the information needed to assess fit and risk before deployment.
When You'll Hear This
"Check the model card before you fine-tune, it lists the license restrictions." / "The model card flags weaker performance on non-English languages."
