Trust Fall Deploy
ELI5 - The Vibe Check
You review the AI's code, it looks plausible, you don't fully understand the middle third of it, and you deploy anyway because the tests are green and you're due in a meeting. That's a trust fall deploy: closing your eyes and falling backward, hoping the agent catches you. Sometimes it does. Sometimes you hit the floor in front of the whole team.
Real Talk
A trust fall deploy is shipping AI-generated code to production based on passing tests and surface-level plausibility rather than genuine understanding of the implementation. It's increasingly common as agentic tools produce large, working-looking diffs faster than any human can meaningfully review, and it shifts risk from 'will this work' to 'will this work for reasons I can explain later.'
When You'll Hear This
"Tests are green, I don't fully get the caching logic but let's trust fall deploy it." / "That outage was a trust fall deploy that finally hit the floor."
